US BULLETIN No: 07-004/04 DATE: 08/2004
CAN BULLETIN No: N/A
APPLIES TO: 2003-2004 MPV AFFECTED VINs: Greater than JM3 LW28** 3* 357594
SUBJECT: Lack of warm air from front heater
DETAILS:

On some vehicles, the front heater may not provide warm air when front heat is selected. A Water Valve was added to assist in bleeding air from the rear heater during vehicle production. If the Water Valve is in the "CLOSED" position, the front heater will not provide heat.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Verify customer complaint.
  2. Locate the Water Valve in the front heater hose (under cowl at passenger side bulkhead).

  3. Move the Water Valve to the "OPEN" position.
    WARNING:
    • NEVER REMOVE THE COOLING SYSTEM CAP OR LOOSEN THE RADIATOR DRAIN PLUG WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, OR WHEN THE ENGINE AND RADIATOR ARE HOT. SCALDING COOLANT AND STEAM MAY SHOOT OUT AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY. IT MAY ALSO DAMAGE THE ENGINE AND COOLING SYSTEM.
    • TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND WAIT UNTIL IT HAS COOLED. EVEN THEN, BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THE CAP. WRAP A THICK CLOTH AROUND IT AND SLOWLY TURN IT COUNTERCLOCKWISE 2.5 TURNS. STEP BACK WHILE THE PRESSURE ESCAPES.
    • WHEN YOU ARE SURE ALL THE PRESSURE IS GONE, TURN THE CAP USING THE CLOTH, AND REMOVE IT.
  4. Inspect the coolant level in the cooling system reservoir, and if necessary, add coolant to the "FULL" mark.
  5. Start the engine and run it until the cooling fan operates.
  6. Set the heater controls to MAX. front heat.
  7. Confirm that heat is coming out of the front heater vents, and the heater is operating normally.
  8. Inspect the engine and HVAC System for coolant leaks.
  9. Stop the engine and allow it to cool.
  10. Inspect the coolant level and if necessary, add coolant to the "FULL" mark.
  11. Verify repair.
